About The Position

The Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville, a tertiary referral center serving Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, is seeking a General Surgeon at the non-tenure accruing level of Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor. The department is poised for significant growth and aims to be the region’s most valued surgical health care asset. The Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery/Surgical Oncology, with eleven faculty members specializing in breast surgery, colon and rectal surgery, hepatopancreaticobiliary surgical oncology, and minimally invasive surgery, is looking for a candidate with broad clinical experience in general surgery and advanced training in minimally invasive surgery. The candidate will be involved in building an elective general surgery practice and educating medical students and residents. This role is part of a diverse academic general surgery practice that includes an advanced GI/MIS, endoscopic, robotic, and oncologic program. The position reports to the Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery and Surgical Oncology and the Chairman of the Department of Surgery. Faculty will be assigned a mentoring team and participate in a department-wide faculty development program.

Requirements

  • MD/DO degree
  • Board eligible/Board certified in General Surgery
  • Must have or obtain unrestricted Florida medical license
  • Experience in all aspects of the evaluation and treatment including minimally invasive approaches of robotic and laparoscopic surgery.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced training in minimally invasive surgery.
  • Fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery/Advanced GI Surgery is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and maintain a high level of quality of patient care services in all aspects of General Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery.
  • Provide clinical teaching of trainees in General Surgery and actively participate in the educational program.
  • Be responsible for excellent communication with primary care physicians, consulting services, and other referring providers.
  • Assist in marketing the General Surgery Programs to community physicians and managed care organizations.
  • Participate in monthly division and department meetings, administrative functions and institutional committees as requested.
  • Building an elective general surgery practice.
  • Providing education of medical students and residents.
