About The Position

Clio is hiring a General Manager to turn its acquisition of Corvum, a cloud-native VoIP platform built for law firms, into a scalable business across Clio's SMB customer base. The General Manager will be the accountable cross-functional owner of Clio Phones. This is a build role: the product, expert team, and installed customer base exist, while the pricing architecture, repeatable attach motion, support model, forecast, and operating cadence need to be established and scaled. The role owns Clio Phones' business performance and operating plan, initially managing operating metrics and taking on full P&L ownership as the business matures. The General Manager will develop investment models with Finance, serve as Clio's market authority on legal-vertical voice, run business reviews and OKRs, and report performance and recommendations to the executive team. The General Manager will work across Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, and other functions to develop go-to-market execution, implementation, positioning, launch sequencing, retention, and expansion. The role also leads hiring and development of phone-domain experts and is accountable for deal-thesis milestones, risk management, and value creation. Operational ownership includes number inventory and porting, carrier and vendor relationships, reliability, incident response, fraud controls, and telecom compliance and tax filing. The General Manager will lead a cross-functional pod through influence, establish a dedicated Phones Operations team, own the partner portfolio, and represent Clio Phones with customers, partners, industry bodies, and at Clio events. Clio describes itself as a Human and High Performing AI company and uses AI to improve its operations. It states that recruitment AI output is reviewed by a human and that hiring decisions are never automated.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in UCaaS, VoIP, CPaaS, or telecom, including at least 4 years in a senior leadership role owning a voice business line or voice operations organization.
  • Hands-on command of number porting, carrier management, 911, and US and Canadian telecom regulation, including FCC, CRTC, and state commissions.
  • Experience launching or scaling phones inside an SMB software company, or running voice operations at a provider serving SMB customers.
  • Fluency in voice economics, including carrier cost, cost to serve, contribution margin, and churn; experience owning a business number and defending its model.
  • Sufficient depth in SIP, networking, and session border controllers to challenge engineering and diagnose escalations; the role is not hands-on in the stack.
  • Executive-level negotiation experience, including multi-year commercial deals with carriers or channel partners.
  • Demonstrated results moving go-to-market and engineering organizations the candidate did not control.
  • Ability to make decisions under ambiguity and define scope, organizational design, and priorities as they evolve.
  • Ability to work scrappily when delegation is unavailable and build systems to prevent repeat work.
  • Ability to explain complex telecom problems clearly to customers, sales representatives, and executives.

Nice To Haves

  • Credibility with a professional-services audience; legal, legaltech, or regulated-industry experience is a strong advantage.
  • Experience launching phones inside a vertical SaaS platform.
  • Experience building a porting or voice operations team from scratch.
  • Experience integrating an acquired product and team into a larger platform.
  • Canadian telecom experience.

  • Run the business review cadence, own OKRs, and report performance and recommendations to Clio's executive team.
  • Partner with Sales on go-to-market execution, with Customer Success on implementation, and with Marketing on launch sequencing, positioning, and demand.
  • Own retention and expansion as well as acquisition.
  • Lead, hire, and retain phone-domain experts.
  • Own milestones, manage risks, and meet value-creation targets in the deal thesis.
  • Manage number inventory and porting at volume, including order accuracy, first-pass success, rejection recovery, timelines, and port-outs as retention events.
  • Own carrier and vendor relationships, including SLAs, redundancy, routing quality, rate management, invoice reconciliation, and multi-year commercial terms.
  • Own customer-facing reliability, including uptime targets, monitoring, status page, incident escalation, and post-incident reviews.
  • Own toll-fraud detection, spend caps, and account security.
  • Manage the recurring compliance calendar with Legal and Tax, including telecom tax filing cadence.
  • Lead a cross-functional pod through influence, coordinating named owners across product, engineering, sales, success, support, legal, tax, and finance.
  • Establish a dedicated Phones Operations team covering porting, provisioning, carrier escalation, and compliance operations.
  • Recruit and develop people who treat AI fluency as part of their craft.
  • Own the partner portfolio across carriers, hardware, and installation, and escalate partner performance issues.
  • Represent Clio Phones with customers, partners, industry bodies, and at Clio events.
