About The Position

Manages hotel to ensure efficient and profitable operation by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. The General Manager is responsible for the overall success of the hotel, using effective leadership, sales, and expenses control skills to drive revenue, maximize profits, and ensure quality. This role involves effectively managing and motivating associates to ensure achievement of overall financial results, guest, and associate satisfaction. The General Manager also acts as a champion for the hotel’s internal and external communications and record keeping, ensuring that corporate, divisional, and department policies and procedures are adhered to at all levels.

Requirements

  • 5 years hotel operations experience with a minimum of 3 years at the management level (General Manager or Assistant GM)
  • Knowledge of Choice or similar branded hotel systems.
  • Must be an effective leader, self-motivator, team builder, and willing to work 50+ hours per week; at a minimum of 5 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize and maximize guest and associate experience.
  • Drive revenue, maximize profits, and ensure quality through effective leadership, sales, and expense control skills.
  • Manage and motivate associates to achieve financial results, guest satisfaction, and associate satisfaction.
  • Champion the hotel’s internal and external communications and record keeping.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate, divisional, and department policies and procedures.
  • Aggressively pursue sales and revenue goals, utilize yield management and revenue maximization tools, and prepare and manage the annual budget.
  • Manage and control operational expenses including labor, overtime, and supplies.
  • Enforce procurement guidelines and seek and implement cost-saving strategies.
  • Ensure the hotel meets and exceeds guest satisfaction standards.
  • Analyze service and quality issues, identify training needs, and ensure implementation of training programs.
  • Provide leadership support, actively participate, and direct the sales team.
  • Take an active role in the preparation and implementation of the hotel’s Sales and Marketing Plan, prospect and make sales calls, and capitalize on revenue opportunities.
  • Stay aware of new market trends and competitor activities and make operational changes to remain competitive.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local organizations to ensure good standing in the community.
  • Motivate, coach, and train team members, set goals, hold team members accountable, and provide feedback, rewards, and recognition.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, take ownership of actions, communicate effectively, promote collaboration, and nurture a positive work environment.
  • Interpret financial results regarding revenue, payroll costs, and expenses.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Operation Budget.
  • Establish and monitor cost and expense control systems and procedures.
  • Take corrective measures to ensure highest possible profitability.
  • Maximize revenue through a pro-active approach.
  • Send a daily end-of-day activity and accomplishment email to the Director of Operations or immediate supervisor.
  • Develop and implement the approved business plan to attain and exceed financial goals.
  • Maintain a high personal visibility throughout the property.
  • Gain and maintain excellent knowledge of local competition and general industry trends.
  • Handle any emergencies at the hotel.
  • Schedule availability during peak operation hours to monitor service and cleanliness standards.
  • Address complaints and solve problems at the hotel.
  • Train all employees to project professionalism and provide friendly and efficient service.
  • Actively manage the financial statement and review performance.
  • Train the management team on financial responsibility.
  • Assess and/or ensure regular and timely assessment and performance reviews of all hotel associates and process personnel records.
  • Monitor and participate in sales solicitation activities.
  • Conduct daily individual meetings with department heads/managers to review outcomes and goals.
  • Conduct prescheduled weekly meetings with department heads/managers.
  • Conduct a monthly safety meeting.
  • Create a safety committee that follows written guidelines.
  • Ensure all associates are trained on security and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure all property equipment is in good working condition.
  • Successfully maintain adequate staffing.
  • Handle all supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SOPs, training programs, and applicable laws.
  • Maintain a correspondence file for ease of reference.
  • Stay overnight at the hotel once per year to experience rooms and services, utilizing different room types on a rotating basis.
