The General Manager is responsible for everything that happens during their shift, including staffing, paperwork, cost controls, inventory, cash control, food management, customer relations, scheduling, store cleanliness, marketing, and profitability. The manager must set an example by following all policies and procedures and expecting the same from the crew, while maintaining company standards and providing great customer service. The role includes general store-team duties such as operating equipment, stocking ingredients and supplies, preparing products, receiving and processing telephone orders, taking inventory, completing paperwork, and cleaning equipment and the facility. Orientation and training are provided on the job. The position involves communicating with customers and coworkers, processing orders, using a computer keyboard or touch screen, and handling monetary transactions accurately. The work takes place in a store with varying temperatures, food odors, cornmeal dust, cramped spaces, hot surfaces, sharp edges, and moving mechanical parts. Physical activities include standing, walking, sitting for paperwork, lifting and carrying supplies, pushing or pulling trays, occasional stair or ladder use, bending, squatting, and frequent reaching and hand use. Team members may also perform delivery-related duties, including driving, carrying products, and navigating delivery locations; those duties require a valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle.
