About The Position

Sonoco U.S. Paper Mills Corp., De Pere Mill is hiring full-time, entry-level General Laborers to support paperboard and spirally wound core stock production. Reporting to the Mill Superintendent, the role involves preparing machines for customer orders and working with order-specific specifications. Employees may qualify for higher earnings as they become qualified in positions. The posting states a starting pay rate of $26.02 per hour and the potential to earn $62,000 in the first year.

The position uses rotating 12-hour shifts, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., with a 48-hour work week. Overtime is paid at time and one-half after eight hours in a day, and night-shift differential is $0.90. Employees must be available for all shifts on the rotating schedule. Work takes place in a mill where seasonal Wisconsin temperatures and heat generated by paper machines affect the temperature.

Requirements

• Be available to work all shifts on a rotating schedule.

• Be able to lift up to 25 pounds as needed and team lift 50 pounds.

• Be able to read and understand manufacturing instructions.
• Be able to perform repetitive duties while standing for long periods on concrete floors.

• Previous machine operating experience.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and adjust equipment to ensure production quality meets or exceeds customer standards.
• Set up new jobs and operate various types of paper manufacturing machinery.
• Work with different specifications relating to each customer order.
• Collaborate with other departments and teams.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
• Perform duties as assigned by a supervisor or manager.
• Perform duties in support of Sonoco’s quality and safety policies.
• Assist other departments as needed.
