About The Position

Smithfield is hiring production team members to handle materials and use hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment in support of food production. The work is physically demanding and requires hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, strength, and stamina. Team members must be available for scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime depending on production demands. Work may involve animal blood or carcass parts, temperature extremes, wet and humid conditions, noise, strong odors, and sanitation chemicals. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform essential functions.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
• Able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
• Willing and able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
• Able to work with a knife if trained.
• Able to work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees.
• Able to work in wet and humid environments, noisy environments while using personal protective equipment, and around strong smells or odors and sanitation/cleaning chemicals.
• Able to wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes.
• Able to climb or move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms; bend, stoop, and twist repetitively; and walk long distances.
• Able to meet the physical demands of the position. Some positions require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 pounds, single lifts of objects weighing up to 60 pounds, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
