About The Position

Smithfield Foods is hiring a General Laborer to perform production tasks that support safe, high-quality meat processing. The role involves processing meat products for consumers using hand tools, knives, machinery, and other equipment. General Laborers help maintain a safe and efficient production line, support coworkers, and contribute to standards for safety, quality, and teamwork. The work is physically demanding and requires attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, and reliability. Employees must work their scheduled shift and may be required to work overtime depending on production demands. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be willing and able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Must be able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
Must be able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
Must be willing and able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts, strong smells or odors, sanitation and cleaning chemicals, and wet and humid conditions.
Must be willing and able to work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees.
Must be willing and able to work in a noisy environment while wearing personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes.
Must be willing and able to use a knife if trained.
Must be able to climb and move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms; bend, stoop, and twist repetitively; and walk long distances.
May need certification to operate equipment required for the position.
Depending on the position, must be able to perform repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 pounds, lift heavy objects up to 60 pounds, or lift objects using mechanical assistance.
Must be able to work the scheduled shift and may be required to work overtime based on production demands.
