About The Position

The General Helper is an entry-level role under direct supervision. The position assists with repairing or cleaning rail cars, both inside and outside, including tank cars and hopper cars. The helper may also support repairs through welding and ironwork and assist other trades and crafts with day-to-day operations. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

• Basic math, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
• Ability to work Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with mandatory overtime after the normal shift and on weekends.
• Work weekends as needed.
• Dependable and able to manage time effectively.
• Willingness to help in other departments as needed.
• Ability to work independently or as a team member.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Previous industrial, manufacturing, railroad, environmental, commercial paint, or coating experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual work as directed by the supervisor.
• Assist with coating, repairing, or cleaning rail cars inside and/or outside, including tank cars and hopper cars.
• Perform welding and ironwork as needed to support repairs.
• Use hand tools.
• Assist other trades and crafts in their day-to-day operations.
• Lift, carry, and hold materials, tools, and supplies.
• Complete required safety training.
• Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
