About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities, keeping them clean, sanitary, and orderly, and performs other tasks related to the assigned area. Duties include high dusting, sanitizing and spot cleaning, bathroom cleaning, emptying trash, floor dusting, vacuuming and sanitizing, and care of grounds, public common areas, and food court areas. The cleaner inspects completed rooms and corrects issues as needed to prevent problems or complaints. Additional duties may be assigned by a supervisor or Account Manager, including floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor auto-scrubbing and buffing. The role also involves providing courteous customer service, reporting broken or out-of-order items to a supervisor, working quietly, maintaining a neat personal appearance, and staying in the assigned work area unless directed elsewhere. If an assignment is not completed by the end of the shift, the cleaner must report this to the supervisor.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic janitorial work, methods, materials, and equipment.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices and the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals according to MSDS sheets.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, including written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to communicate sufficiently with coworkers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to maintain the physical condition required for assigned duties, including extended walking, standing, or sitting; lifting and carrying 1–30 pounds; pushing and pulling with 5–35 pounds of force; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, and fingering.
Ability to use sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination to perform cleaning tasks and operate equipment and tools safely.
Overhead reaching is required throughout the shift.

Responsibilities

High dust surfaces above shoulder height, including lights, vents, ledges, and window areas.
Sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and spot clean fingerprints, smudges, and windows using the appropriate cleaning solutions.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks and toilets; check and refill soap and paper dispensers as needed.
Empty trash cans, clean them if needed, and replace liners.
Dust mop or vacuum rooms, including underneath furniture, and clean the mophead and dispose of collected dust properly.
Clean and inspect outside areas, including ash urns, trash cans, sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines, benches, vending machines, window ledges, public glass, and parking lots.
Dust mop and spot mop public hallways; clean glass, planters, corners, and edges, and check for cobwebs and debris.
Clean and sanitize food court tables, remove trash, return chairs to their places, spot clean spills, clean trash cans, and process trays using the tray power washer.
Sanitize floors with the appropriate germicidal solution, mopping under furniture and behind doors while exiting the room.
Inspect completed rooms, verify furniture placement, and make corrections as needed.
Clean halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, and furniture; perform wall spotting and high dusting daily.
Provide courteous customer service, answer or refer questions, report broken or out-of-order items, work quietly, and remain in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise.
Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance and report unfinished assignments to the supervisor at the end of the shift.
Perform other assigned duties, potentially including floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor auto-scrubbing and buffing.
