About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities, maintaining clean, sanitary, and orderly conditions, and completes other tasks related to the assigned area. Duties include high dusting, sanitizing and spot cleaning surfaces, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, dusting or vacuuming floors, sanitizing floors, and maintaining grounds and public common areas. The cleaner also services food-court areas, checks completed work, and provides courteous customer service while working quietly and remaining in the assigned work area. Other duties may be assigned by a supervisor or Account Manager, including floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, carpet extraction and bonneting, and auto-scrubbing and buffing floors.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic janitorial work operations, methods, materials, and equipment.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices and the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals according to MSDS sheets.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, including cleaning-chemical instructions and warning labels.
Ability to communicate sufficiently with coworkers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to maintain the physical condition needed for assigned duties, including prolonged walking, standing, or sitting; lifting and carrying equipment, supplies, and trash weighing 1–30 lbs.; pushing and pulling with both hands and arms using 5–35 lbs. of force; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; reaching overhead; and handling and grasping equipment and tools.
Ability to use sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination to perform cleaning tasks and operate equipment safely.

Responsibilities

High dust surfaces above shoulder height, including lights, vents, ledges, and window areas.
Sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and spot clean fingerprints, smudges, and windows using appropriate cleaning solutions.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks and toilets; check and refill soap and paper dispensers daily.
Empty trash cans, wipe them when needed, and replace liners.
Dust mop or vacuum floors, including under furniture, and clean dust-mop heads after use.
Clean and inspect outdoor areas, including ash urns, trash cans, sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines, benches, vending machines, lower window ledges, public glass, and parking lots.
Dust mop and spot mop hallways; clean glass and planters and check corners and window areas for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
Clean food-court tables and trash cans, sanitize tables, replace chairs under tables, remove dirty trays to the washroom, and clean trays using a tray power washer.
Sanitize floors using the appropriate germicidal solution, working beneath furniture and behind doors.
Review completed rooms, check furniture placement, and correct issues as needed.
Clean halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, and furniture; perform wall spotting and high dusting daily.
Knock before entering an occupied room, assist or direct customers courteously, and report broken or out-of-order items to a supervisor.
Work quietly, minimize noise, maintain a neat personal appearance, remain in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise, and notify the supervisor if assigned work is unfinished at shift end.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed by a supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care and carpet cleaning.
