About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.
  • Sight – in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height, remove fingerprints and smudges from surfaces, and spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, and dispensers, and refill as needed.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if necessary, and replace liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors, including under furniture, using appropriate techniques.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying trash cans and ash urns, policing sidewalks and parking lots for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and high dusting ledges.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, and high dust window areas.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables, spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, clean trays using a tray power washer, and police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement for corrections.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Be friendly and courteous to customers, answer questions or refer them to someone who can, report broken items, work quietly, stay in the assigned work area, and maintain a clean personal appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
