About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
Operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, Operating powered and non-powered equipment, Lifting/carrying 1 – 30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash, Push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force, Climbing stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes, Bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck throughout shift, Kneeling/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves, Reaching, handling, grasping and fingering while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment. Overhead reaching required throughout shift.
Sight – in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards. Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and remove fingerprints/smudges from surfaces and spot clean windows.
Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, toilet bowls, soap dispensers, and paper dispensers. Refill dispensers as needed.
Empty Trash Cans: Empty trash cans, replace liners, and clean cans if liquid is present.
Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors using appropriate techniques, ensuring all areas are covered.
Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot.
Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, and perform high dusting of window areas.
Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and police outside eating areas.
Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room and working towards the exit.
Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
Hall – lobby – stairs – water fountains – furniture – wall spotting and high dusting is done daily.
Customer Relations and Service: Be friendly and cheerful to customers, answer questions courteously, report broken items to a supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned work area, maintain a clean personal appearance, and report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
