About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, overhead reaching, and good sight with depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down bathroom surfaces including sink, toilet seat, outside of toilet bowl, and inside of the toilet bowl using a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and replace with a clean liner.
Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an “S” stroke, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, covering all furniture.
Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass, planters (inside and out), and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week. Check corners and edges for debris.
Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are performed daily.
Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work quietly, speak quietly, and try to reduce noise. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
Other duties: Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
