About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Requires good sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs, walls, and spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, clean sinks, toilet seats, the outside of toilet bowls, and the inside of toilet bowls with a Johnnie Mop. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and replace with clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an “S” stroke, ensuring to dust under furniture and in restrooms. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, ensuring to clean under furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass surfaces multiple times daily. Clean planters inside and out, ensuring they are free from bird waste. Perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors starting from the back of the room, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks include cleaning halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly on occupied doors before entering. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer customers to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work quietly and speak softly. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing).
