About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks in various areas including restrooms, common areas, food courts, and grounds care, as well as customer relations and service.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.

  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1 – 30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash.
  • Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout shift.
  • Ability to see clearly for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, requiring depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution.
  • Clean restrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, using appropriate solutions and tools.
  • Empty and clean trash cans, replacing liners as needed.
  • Dust mop or vacuum floors using the ‘S’ stroke method, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
  • Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and performing high dusting of window areas.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, spot clean spills, empty trash cans, and clean trays using a tray power washer.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, ensuring all areas under furniture and behind doors are cleaned.
  • Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, reviewing steps and visually checking furniture placement.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls, including spotting and high dusting.
  • Engage in customer relations and service by being friendly, courteous, answering questions, and reporting issues to the supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction, bonneting), auto scrubbing, and buffing floors.
