About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to keep them clean, sanitary, and orderly, along with other tasks related to the assigned area. Duties include cleaning and sanitizing rooms, bathrooms, floors, hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, food court areas, and outdoor grounds. The cleaner follows specified procedures for dusting, vacuuming, sanitizing, trash removal, and replenishing dispensers, and inspects completed work to correct issues and prevent complaints. The role also involves courteous customer service, reporting broken or out-of-order items to a supervisor, maintaining a neat personal appearance, and remaining in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Other duties may be assigned by a supervisor or Account Manager, including floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor scrubbing and buffing.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic janitorial work, methods, materials, and equipment.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices and the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals in accordance with MSDS sheets.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate sufficiently with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain the physical condition required for assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods; operating equipment; lifting or carrying 1–30 lb. items; pushing or pulling with 5–35 lb. of force; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, and fingering.
Sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination sufficient to perform cleaning tasks, operate equipment, use tools, and maintain safety standards.

Responsibilities

High dust surfaces above shoulder height, including lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
Sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and spot-clean fingerprints, smudges, and windows.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks and toilets, and check and refill soap and paper dispensers.
Empty trash cans, wipe them if needed, and replace liners.
Dust mop or vacuum rooms, including beneath furniture and in restrooms.
Clean and inspect outside areas, including ash urns, trash cans, sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines, benches, vending machines, window ledges, public-area glass, and parking lots.
Dust mop and spot mop public common areas, clean glass, maintain planters, and check corners and edges for debris and cobwebs.
Clean and sanitize food court tables, return chairs to their places, spot-clean spills, empty trash, and clean and stack trays.
Sanitize floors, including beneath furniture and behind doors.
Inspect completed rooms, review cleaning steps, check furniture placement, and make corrections as needed.
Clean halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spots daily.
Provide courteous customer service, answer questions or refer customers to someone who can assist, and report broken or out-of-order items to a supervisor.
Work quietly, reduce noise, remain in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise, maintain a neat appearance, and report incomplete assignments to the supervisor.
Perform other assigned duties, which may include stripping and waxing floors, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor scrubbing and buffing.
