About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with both hands and arms (5-35 lbs force), climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, overhead reaching, and possessing adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms by wiping down surfaces in a specific order: above and below the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Use a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution for the inside of the toilet, paying attention to the rim.
  • Check and refill soap and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners if liquid is present, and wiping down the can if necessary.
  • Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead or vacuum cleaner, working from the back of the room towards the door using an "S" stroke for dusting to catch dust on the leading edge. Ensure all areas under furniture and in restrooms are cleaned.
  • Clean outside areas multiple times a day, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters inside and out, checking for cobwebs, and high dusting window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, emptying and cleaning trash cans, removing dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and policing outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors as backing out of the room.
  • Perform daily cleaning of hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, as well as high dusting.
  • Engage in customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring them to someone who can, reporting broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor, working and speaking quietly, staying in the assigned work area unless requested otherwise, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
