About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Good eyesight for cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down sink, toilet seat, and outside of toilet bowl using a germicidal solution. Clean the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and check soap and paper dispensers daily, refilling as needed.
  • Empty Trash Cans: If liquid is present, remove the liner, wipe the trash can, and place a clean liner.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an “S” stroke, dusting under furniture and in restrooms. Clean mophead with a counter brush. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work toward the door, ensuring coverage under furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass, planters (inside and out), and check for cobwebs/do high dusting of window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and other debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and mop under furniture and behind doors as you back out.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks include cleaning halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can. Report broken items to the supervisor. Work and speak quietly. Stay in the assigned work area unless requested otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
