About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution.
  • Clean bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, using germicidal solutions.
  • Empty trash cans, replace liners, and clean cans if necessary.
  • Dust or vacuum floors, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
  • Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and checking for cobwebs.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, spot clean spills, and process dirty trays.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room.
  • Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, reviewing steps, and visually checking furniture placement.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls, including spotting and high dusting.
  • Engage in customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously, reporting issues to the supervisor, working quietly, and maintaining a clean personal appearance.
  • Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor, which may include floor care tasks like stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
