About The Position

This part-time role encompasses guest service, security shift coverage, guest arrivals, and emergency response. The Esalen Gate team provides 24-hour coverage. Employees are expected to act both as authoritative enforcers and as supportive peers within the Esalen community. The role includes greeting arrivals and guests, monitoring radio traffic, responding to emergencies, conducting night patrols, supporting guests, preventing trespassing, managing parking, and preventing and resolving conflicts. This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties or responsibilities. Assignments may be added or changed at any time, with or without notice, based on the needs of Esalen and the team. The work takes place in a physically demanding environment and involves lifting up to 30 pounds, maneuvering on uneven ground, standing for long periods, sitting at a desk, using computers, and answering phones. On-site staff housing is not offered. Pay is $16.96–$21.41 an hour, commensurate with experience and internal equity.

Requirements

Guest service experience.
Security experience.
Ability to work with Google Office.
First aid and CPR training.
Efficient task management.

Responsibilities

Greet and welcome new arrivals during check-in.
Greet staff guests and official guests.
Monitor radio traffic.
Manage emergency response.
Conduct property-wide night patrols and ensure required doors are secure and locked.
Support guests as needed.
Prevent travelers on Highway 1 from trespassing on the property.
Manage parking.
Prevent and resolve conflicts.
