Gate Attendant/Scale Operator

About The Position

A Gate Attendant/Scale Operator monitors and records waste volumes entering a post-collection site and collects appropriate usage fees. The role determines the contents of incoming material to bill customers correctly, accepts or rejects loads, and may suggest alternatives based on special-waste, waste-type, or local-market guidance. The operator documents waste using truck scales and computer systems, handles customer payments and receipts, balances and deposits daily receipts, and communicates with operations about special or other incoming loads. The position also includes answering the telephone, providing general information, keeping the work area clean, and performing other assigned job-related duties.

Requirements

Experience in a previous position requiring the handling of cash and balancing cash and/or receipts.
Experience with computers and various software programs.

Responsibilities

Determine the content of material entering the facility to bill the customer properly.
Accept or reject waste loads based on content and suggest alternatives based on special waste, waste type, and/or local market training.
Receive customer payments and provide receipts.
Balance daily receipts, maintain accurate records and billing, and deposit daily receipts into the safe depository.
Document incoming waste using truck scales and computer systems, and track the total amount of waste entering the facility.
Notify operations of special waste or other incoming special loads; direct or dispatch as necessary; process required paperwork and perform other duties necessary to process special loads.
Answer the telephone and provide general information to callers.
Maintain the cleanliness of the work area.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
