About The Position

The API & Developer Experience team is seeking a Software Developer to build and evolve developer.sas.com, the portal where developers and AI agents discover and use SAS APIs. The team owns standards, the publishing pipeline, and the portal for hundreds of SAS Viya APIs, and is preparing the catalog for agent-based use. The role will help make SAS APIs easier for AI agents to discover and use through capabilities such as linked Markdown for API operations, MCP and OAuth discovery metadata, and reliable API contracts. The developer will work in a modern React and Next.js codebase on Azure, contributing to a small team whose work ships weekly and reaches developers worldwide. The role also supports a fast, accessible, reliable experience for portal users and follows SAS security policies and secure software development processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field; an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • At least 5 years of software development or programming experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience building production web applications with React and TypeScript.
  • Experience building server-rendered applications with Next.js or a similar React framework, including server-side API routes.
  • Experience with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL, through an ORM such as Prisma.
  • Experience implementing authentication and authorization in web applications, including OAuth 2.0 and RBAC.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, including build, test with Jest or Playwright, and deployment automation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure services such as App Service, Front Door, Storage, API Management, and Application Insights, including infrastructure as code with Bicep.
  • Familiarity with OpenAPI specifications and API documentation tooling.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.2 and testing tools such as axe.
  • Interest in or exposure to agent-readiness standards such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP), llms.txt, and OAuth/OIDC discovery metadata.
  • Practical knowledge of current tools, solutions, and trends to improve results, solve problems, and identify opportunities.
  • Attention to detail and ability to check processes and work accurately over time.
  • Ability to collaborate cooperatively with others to help a team achieve its goals.

  • Partner with designers, content owners, product managers, and API teams to ensure features meet requirements and align with SAS standards.
  • Own code across its full life cycle, including unit, end-to-end, and accessibility testing, production support, and improvements to portal reliability, performance, and observability on Azure.
  • Participate in project scoping and planning, track progress, and flag issues that could block completion early.
  • Write clear design and technical documentation for internal and external audiences.
  • Participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.
  • Follow applicable security policies and processes in support of the organization's secure software development goals.
  • Embrace curiosity, passion, authenticity, and accountability in day-to-day work.
