About The Position

As a Fuel Handling Engineering Manager, you will transform and grow our Fuel Handling Engineering team - a diverse group designing advanced systems for nuclear fuel movement and plant cranes. This is more than a management role. It's an opportunity to modernize technology, inspire collaboration, and shape the next generation of clean energy solutions. You will report to the Director, Material Handling & Tooling Component Manufacturing and Engineering and be located at Shoreview, MN. Though this is a hybrid role, a core expectation will be to be in office 3-5 days per week, to establish relationships within the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (I&C strongly preferred).
  • 8+ years of engineering experience with demonstrated leadership roles.
  • Lead organizational change and foster collaboration.
  • Experience with QA programs and manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with modeling tools (ANSYS, Inventor, SolidWorks) and data management systems (PDM/PLM).
  • Ability to Influence others outside of own job area regarding policies.
  • Demonstrate sound contract knowledge, use approved commercial processes, manage work to terms, scope; track progress and models a questioning attitude

  • PE license a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 45+ engineers and designers across multiple disciplines (including Supervisors and their teams)
  • Manage two supervisors, each with 15–20 direct reports.
  • Oversee Performance Feedback Plans (PFPs) and conduct regular one-on-one meetings with supervisors.
  • Guide hiring, onboarding, and talent development to maintain critical skills and important competencies.
  • Support technical leadership reviews, promotions, and career progression for team members.
  • Develop and execute resource and technical strategies, including budget planning and management.
  • Prioritize and lead process improvement and modernization projects to enhance design quality and reduce cycle times.
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear quality standards, safety requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Be a change leader, introducing digital tools, model-based design, and simulation-driven workflows.
  • Foster collaboration between engineering disciplines and manufacturing.
  • Build relationships with global Westinghouse engineering teams and use intra/inter-department partnerships to balance demand and supply.
  • Provide project updates to senior management and customers.
