About The Position

Northgate Gonzalez Market is hiring a part-time Fresh Department Clerk for its new Bellflower store. The clerk performs department operations, assists customers, and follows company, health, food-handling, and safety policies. Duties include packaging, weighing, pricing, rotating, and restocking products; handling damaged or spoiled goods; and completing other work-related duties as assigned. The position involves working with meat and other fresh department products and equipment in refrigerated and frozen storage areas.

Requirements

Ability to hear, speak, and understand spoken English to respond to pages, assist customers, answer telephones, and communicate effectively.
Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret, and understand English sufficiently to follow equipment instructions, company materials, and other job-related documents.
Knowledge of the cuts and types of meat products sold in the department, their recommended uses or cooking methods, and store and department procedures, policies, and operations.
Ability to sit, stand, and use hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to lift up to 70 pounds, climb a ladder, sweep and mop floors, and lift and carry trash containers.
Sufficient mobility or agility to respond quickly to emergencies and dexterity to disassemble, clean, and adjust department equipment or clear label jams.
Ability to work around fresh fruits, vegetables, and latex gloves without adverse allergic effects on job performance.
Ability to work in refrigerated cutting rooms and storage areas, occasional frozen storage areas as cold as 20 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, and on wet or slippery surfaces.
Ability to work in environments with generally moderate noise and occasional extreme noise from compressor or machine rooms and power tools or equipment.
Successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must pass a pre-employment drug test; the test will not screen for non-psychoactive cannabis metabolites.
Upon hire, must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required employment eligibility verification form.

Responsibilities

Observe store rules and company policies.
Follow applicable health and civil code regulations and weights and measures laws.
Package, weigh, and price department products using approved procedures for weighing, wrapping, price marking, and restocking cases.
Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and help control damaged goods.
Rotate perishable merchandise according to department policy and product code dates, and remove out-of-code merchandise using FIFO rules.
Greet customers and provide prompt, courteous service and assistance.
Serve customers by slicing, cutting, weighing, packaging, and labeling merchandise.
Use and maintain equipment in good working order and promptly report maintenance or equipment problems to the store director or key person in charge.
Follow safety policies and procedures and read Safety Committee bulletins.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
