About The Position

The Janitor maintains the store’s cleanliness, safety, and security by performing cleaning and maintenance duties in sales, warehouse, restroom, employee, and other designated areas. The role follows applicable health and civil regulations, store procedures, chemical-safety instructions, and company HAZCOM policies. The employee also provides courteous customer assistance, maintains equipment, communicates with coworkers and supervisors, and responds promptly to spills, breakage, emergencies, and other safety or security needs. High school education is preferred but not required, and no certificates, licenses, or registrations are required. This is a part-time position at the new Bellflower #54 store.

Requirements

Able to perform eighth-grade-level arithmetic to calculate cleaning-solution mixture ratios or dilution factors.
Able to hear, speak, and understand spoken language to respond to pages, assist customers, answer telephones, and communicate effectively.
Able to read, write, analyze, interpret, and understand English sufficiently to follow equipment instructions, company materials, and other job-related documents.
Knowledgeable about store maintenance procedures, including safety and HAZCOM policies.
Able to lift up to 70 pounds at least once per shift.
Able to climb a ladder and perform tasks requiring access to elevated areas.
Able to tolerate moderate dust and chemical fumes from common cleaning agents.
Able to work on wet and slippery surfaces and occasionally in frozen or refrigerated areas with temperatures as low as 20 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.
Able to pass a pre-employment drug test, subject to the stated screening exception for non-psychoactive cannabis metabolites.

Responsibilities

Follow applicable local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Empty rubbish containers and clean and sanitize bathrooms and plumbing fixtures; replenish restroom paper and soap supplies.
Clean, sweep, scrub, strip, wax, buff, or vacuum floors in sales and other designated areas according to store procedures and schedules; clean employee break and lunch areas and sweep warehouse floors.
Monitor cleaning-supply inventory and submit purchase orders or requests to store management as needed.
Follow the company HAZCOM program and manufacturer instructions for safe use of chemical products; use proper dilution ratios and control excessive utility and water use.
Handle damaged and spoiled products and place them in designated areas.
Perform the hourly Gleason walk throughout the store.
Observe security standards, report abnormal behavior, and secure auxiliary doors and entrances when handling trash or cleaning exterior equipment.
Notify the store manager of personnel situations or policy violations that affect store operations or may require disciplinary action.
Greet customers and provide prompt, courteous service or assistance.
Use and maintain equipment in good working order and promptly report maintenance or equipment problems to the store manager.
Assist with training associates when requested or directed and maintain good communication with coworkers and supervisors.
Comply with safety policies and procedures; place warning signs or safety cones around potential hazards such as wet or slippery floors.
Sweep floors during store hours and promptly respond to spills, broken containers, emergencies, and other potential safety hazards.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
