Founding Product Engineer

Veedma,
$160,000 - $200,000Remote

About The Position

Veedma is a telehealth practice focused on men's hormonal and sexual health. The product encompasses the entire patient journey, including intake, lab ordering, provider review, prescription management, patient-provider messaging, and billing. The company utilizes AI in two primary ways: the founders actively use Claude Code daily, and the production code integrates with OpenAI's API via Python for in-product features and content pipeline functionalities that benefit from LLMs. The role involves working directly with the founders, with the CTO reviewing code. The ideal candidate is proactive, takes ownership of issues, and is personally interested in men's health, hormone optimization, or longevity.

Requirements

  • 7-8+ years of experience building production web applications end-to-end.
  • Significant experience in healthcare, telehealth, EHR, digital therapeutics, pharmacy, or medical-device companies.
  • Understanding of Protected Health Information (PHI) and HIPAA.
  • Experience hitting EHR APIs.
  • Commitment to staying in the healthcare industry.
  • 6+ months of daily, intensive use of Claude Code (4+ hours per day), including writing skills, wiring MCP servers, composing sub-agents, and maintaining CLAUDE.md files.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including typed code, async programming, packaging, profiling, and comprehensive test coverage.
  • Ability to ship across the full stack daily (frontend, backend, schema migrations, infra).
  • Experience with real external integrations (payments, EHR, messaging, identity) including error handling and on-call experience.
  • Experience shipping LLM features to real users, including production prompt engineering, evaluations, retrieval, structured outputs, and cost/latency budgeting.
  • Proactive approach to tooling, including building necessary internal dashboards and improving deployment and testing processes.
  • Writing tests on the parts that need them, not everywhere.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with EHR systems (Akute, Healthie).
  • Experience working at DTC telehealth companies like Hims, Ro, Hone, or Maximus.
  • Stripe billing experience beyond basic checkout.
  • Experience with Flask, Peewee, or Celery in production.
  • Comfortable shipping server-rendered HTML (Jinja templates, Tailwind) and able to argue for alternative solutions like SPAs or different frameworks/languages when justified.

Responsibilities

  • Own patient-facing flows: intake, lab upload, report delivery, messaging, payment.
  • Develop internal tools for the clinical team to streamline platform operations.
  • Manage and develop integrations with external services such as Akute, Stripe, Postmark, Fillout, ShipStation, and Slack.
  • Handle the end-to-end development lifecycle from specification to production deployment.
  • Own and extend the AI layer, including in-product features powered by OpenAI API calls and team-side AI tooling using Claude Code.
  • Write production code, fix bugs, optimize queries, and implement necessary tools.
  • Ship features, including frontend, backend, schema migrations, and infrastructure changes.
  • Implement robust error handling for external integrations.
  • Develop and maintain LLM features in production, including prompt engineering, evaluations, retrieval, structured outputs, and cost/latency budgeting.
  • Build internal dashboards and improve tooling and deployment processes.
  • Write tests for critical parts of the application.
