Forward-deployed Software Engineer

GripFusion•Ann Arbor, MI
•$110,000 - $145,000•Onsite

About The Position

GripFusion is building sports performance technology with Tactile Intelligence. The Forward-deployed Software Engineer will expand the ways athletes and coaches interact with GripFusion products, from the ForceBall to iPad, mobile, and web experiences that turn tactile data into decisions. This product-facing, full-stack role reports to the Head of Software and works with players and coaches to understand their needs and turn what is learned into shipped product. The engineer will work with product, embedded, data science, and design teams. The work includes extending GripFusion’s React Native iPad app and AWS backend, building a React web dashboard and a mobile app that communicates with the ForceBall, creating visualizations including 3D graphics, integrating customers’ existing systems, and contributing to the golf platform. The role balances prototyping and discovery with production engineering, testing, and deployment, and helps establish shared design practices across baseball and golf. This is a full-time, in-person position at GripFusion’s Performance Lab headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with up to 10% travel to MLB and NCAA teams and partners. The environment is a collaborative, innovation-first startup spanning hardware, firmware, software, design, and data science.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years shipping production software across mobile and web, ideally with React Native, React, and TypeScript.
  • Full-stack experience, including cloud backends on AWS and CI/CD and release pipelines for delivering apps to users.
  • A track record of working directly with clients, users, or stakeholders to shape what gets built.
  • Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools and agentic workflows.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hardware systems, Bluetooth or other device data transmission, and device state diagrams.
  • Offline-first mobile architecture and on-device data analysis.
  • Data visualization or 3D graphics on web or mobile, such as three.js, WebGL, or React Three Fiber.
  • Experience integrating third-party data sources and APIs.

Responsibilities

  • Work across the full stack, from BLE device communication and cloud services to mobile and web interfaces.
  • Partner with players, coaches, and team staff to understand user needs and how they interact with tactile data.
  • Balance quick prototyping and discovery with production-level engineering, testing, and deployment.
  • Work with design to shape the user experience and establish shared design practices across verticals.
  • Partner with embedded and data science teams to define device data transmission, state handling, and data formats.
  • Visit MLB teams to test with athletes and coaches and bring product thinking back to the software stack.
  • Use AI development tools every day and help shape how the software team builds with them.
  • Extend and harden the React Native iPad app and its AWS backend.
  • Build a React dashboard for coaches and staff to review sessions, compare athletes, and share insights.
  • Build a mobile app that communicates directly with the ForceBall and supports broader field use cases.
  • Develop novel visualizations for tactile and athlete data, including 3D graphics.
  • Integrate data from systems teams already use.
  • Contribute to the golf product and carry common design patterns and components across baseball and golf.
