About The Position
Boston Consulting Group’s BCG X team combines technology, data science, and consulting to develop and deploy solutions to complex business and societal challenges. The Forward Deployed AI Scientist internship applies data science methods and analytics to real-world business situations across industries, partnering with clients across BCG regions on topics including climate change. The role contributes across the analytics value chain, from framing challenges and designing algorithms to implementing and deploying scalable solutions and helping clients and colleagues adopt AI. It may also involve developing thought leadership, publishing scientific papers, and leading conferences on behalf of BCG X. The internship is evaluative, and interns may have the opportunity to receive full-time offers. The program follows an office-hub model, with locations in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a full-time Master's degree or PhD and graduating between December 2027 and August 2028.
- Passion for data science, statistics, operations research, and transforming organizations into AI-led companies.
- Comfort working in a client-facing role and ambition to lead teams.
- Significant experience applying advanced analytics to varied business situations and ability to synthesize complex data.
- Deep understanding of modern machine learning techniques and their mathematical underpinnings, and ability to translate them into business implications for clients.
- Strong project management skills.
- Programming experience in Python.
- Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the home office and be available to work in the office as directed.
- Ability to accommodate extended working hours at times and travel to client sites.

Responsibilities
- Apply data science methods and analytics to real-world business situations across industries to drive business impact.
- Partner with clients across BCG regions and industries to design, build, and deploy innovative solutions.
- Contribute across the analytics value chain, including framing business challenges, designing algorithms, implementing and deploying scalable solutions, and enabling adoption of AI.
- Develop and deliver thought leadership in scientific communities and papers.
- Lead conferences on behalf of BCG X.
- Distill complex results and processes into clear visualizations and explain sophisticated data science concepts in an understandable manner.
- Work collaboratively with modern development tools and code.
