About The Position

Under general direction of a Forensic Technician Supervisor, performs duties related to the intake, autopsy, release, specimen/evidence preparation and toxicology analysis functions of the Medical Examiner in accordance with all applicable Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs). The Offices Under the President will seek to fill the position by means of the Job Fair process. Qualified applicants will be offered interviews at the Job Fair. Applicants must interview in-person during the job fair as time permits. Limited spots are available. Pre-registration for the fair is highly encouraged through the event link. Requirements

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) test certificate AND Four (4) years full-time work experience in a funeral home, morgue, body transport service, or Medical Examiner’s/coroner’s office is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited university or college with an Associate's Degree AND Two (2) years full-time work experience in a funeral home, morgue, body transport service, or Medical Examiner's/coroner's office is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science; Criminal Justice; or Forensic Science is required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties related to the intake, autopsy, release, specimen/evidence preparation and toxicology analysis functions of the Medical Examiner in accordance with all applicable Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs).
  • Must work in a morgue environment which requires close proximity to deceased human remains and exposure to unpleasant sights, smells, blood and other body fluids.
  • Must work rotating shifts to provide 24/7 coverage including holidays and weekends.
  • Ability to handle work of a detailed and confidential nature.
  • Ability to acquire new skills through on-the-job training.
  • Ability to follow specific verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to write and print legibly and spell correctly and comprehend written documents.
  • Skill and accuracy needed in the use and maintenance of files and records.
  • Good communication skills; ability to gather information from others and make inquiries; ability to convey information and explain or describe basic office policy and procedure to others in person or by telephone.
  • Cooperate with all members of their section and other sections to allow for efficient, thorough, and cooperative performance of work in the spirit of the Medical Examiner’s mission.
  • Ability to work in a morgue environment which requires close proximity to corpses and exposure to unpleasant sights, smells, blood and other body fluids.
  • Ability to lift and transport bodies to and from various locations.
  • Ability to pull or push up to 250 pounds.
  • This position requires various types of physical exertion, including, but not limited to pulling, pushing, standing, lifting and moving objects of moderate to heavy weight.
