About The Position

Under general direction of a Forensic Technician Supervisor, performs duties related to the intake, autopsy, release, specimen/evidence preparation and toxicology analysis functions of the Medical Examiner in accordance with all applicable Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs). This position is considered a safety-sensitive position. Candidates who are selected to fill safety-sensitive positions must pass a required drug test as part of the pre-employment background check process. The Offices Under the President will seek to fill the position by means of the Job Fair process.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) test certificate AND Four (4) years full-time work experience in a funeral home, morgue, body transport service, or Medical Examiner’s/coroner’s office is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited university or college with an Associate's Degree AND Two (2) years full-time work experience in a funeral home, morgue, body transport service, or Medical Examiner's/coroner's office is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science; Criminal Justice; or Forensic Science is required.
  • Must work in a morgue environment which requires close proximity to deceased human remains and exposure to unpleasant sights, smells, blood and other body fluids.
  • Must work rotating shifts to provide 24/7 coverage including holidays and weekends.
  • Candidates who are selected to fill safety-sensitive positions must pass a required drug test as part of the pre-employment background check process.
  • Candidates will be required to produce original required documents (e.g., current driver’s license, diploma, school transcript, certifications, etc.) listed on the Notice of Job Opportunity within five (5) days of being notified, in writing, by the Bureau Chief of BHR (or designee) that they have been provisionally placed on the Interview List.
  • Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by either the World Education Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Ability to work in a morgue environment which requires close proximity to corpses and exposure to unpleasant sights, smells, blood and other body fluids.
  • Ability to lift and transport bodies to and from various locations.
  • Ability to pull or push up to 250 pounds.
  • This position requires various types of physical exertion, including, but not limited to pulling, pushing, standing, lifting and moving objects of moderate to heavy weight.
