(NEX NORFOLK) FOOD SERVICE WORKER (MOBILE FOOD TRUCK)

About The Position

Prepares and sells a limited variety of made-to-order hot and cold food and beverage items from a mobile food truck at scheduled Navy Exchange locations. The role includes preparing food using a grill, microwave oven, and/or deep fryer; taking and serving customer orders; operating a cash register; and following NEX cash-handling policies. The worker loads the truck with food and beverages, drives a prescribed route to scheduled stops on and off installation, and observes traffic safety requirements. The worker may be assigned to a NEX commercial kitchen to handle stored, prepared, and packaged food items for the truck or NEX locations, and may prepare cold sandwiches by portioning meat and cheese and using an automatic sandwich wrapper. The role also includes requisitioning supplies and resale and consumable items, maintaining stock and displays, keeping inventory and operating records, and preparing reports. The worker is expected to meet Navy Exchange customer-service standards, maintain a neat appearance and wear the required uniform and name tag, serve customers courteously and promptly, suggest substitutes and advise customers of specials, present food attractively, provide register receipts, and thank customers. Work is performed independently under established policies and procedures, under the general supervision of a designated supervisor. Work is reviewed for satisfactory selling activities and proper cash balancing; unusual problems are referred to the supervisor. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Possess a valid driver's license or valid commercial driver's license (CDL).
Possess the knowledge and skills necessary to operate a motor vehicle safely.
Be able to obtain and maintain a Food Certificate.
Have 18 months of experience performing various tasks involving food preparation and service. One year of high school education may substitute for three months of experience, up to a high school diploma or GED substituting for 12 months of experience.
Frequently lift or move utensils or food containers weighing up to 45 pounds and constantly stand and walk while working.

Responsibilities

Prepare and sell a limited variety of made-to-order hot and cold food and beverage items using a grill, microwave oven, and/or deep fryer.
Receive and take customer orders, serve customers, and ensure standard prices and portions are applied and a visible price list or menu board is available.
Operate a cash register and follow NEX cash-handling policies and procedures.
Load the food service truck with food and beverages and drive the prescribed route to scheduled locations on and off installation in a timely manner.
Prepare or handle food in a NEX commercial kitchen as assigned, including preparing cold sandwiches, portioning meats and cheese, and wrapping sandwiches with an automatic sandwich wrapper.
Prepare requisitions for supplies, equipment, resale items, and consumables; maintain adequate stock and neatly displayed and stowed supplies.
Maintain inventory and operating records and prepare required reports.
Observe traffic safety requirements and regulations.
Maintain a neat, clean appearance and wear the required uniform and name tag.
Provide prompt, courteous customer service; suggest substitutes, inform customers of specials, present food attractively, provide receipts, and thank customers.
Refer unusual problems to the supervisor and perform other related duties as assigned.
