About The Position

The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) at the Asheville, North Carolina VA Medical Center is hiring part-time Food Service Workers to serve customers in its cafes and retail markets. The role involves preparing beverages such as coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, and smoothies, as well as assembling a variety of food items. Team members maintain workplace cleanliness and sanitation, store food properly, and prepare customer orders according to approved procedures. The position includes exposure to varying hot and cold temperatures and requires a commitment to customer service and serving America's Heroes.

Requirements

A current, valid REAL ID is required.
Ability to read instructions and perform basic math for food preparation.
Must be able to stand constantly, walk, bend frequently, and lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
Excellent customer service skills.
Must serve a one-year trial period and receive written certification for continued employment.
Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with Selective Service.
Subject to a background/security investigation.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of food service industry experience is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

Prepare beverages, including coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, and smoothies.
Prepare and assemble food items such as breakfast and lunch sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, and burritos.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the workplace, equipment, and utensils in compliance with health and safety standards.
Store food properly to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
Prepare foods according to customer orders or supervisors' instructions and approved procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
