About The Position

The Food Service Assistant works in Lake Region Healthcare’s Nutrition Services Department, contributing to patient and customer well-being through nutritious meals, excellent service, and nutrition education. The role operates in a fun, fast-paced, often music-filled environment and includes several days of on-the-job training, ServSafe food sanitation and food allergens courses, and ongoing support. Employees may cross-train in other areas of the department when opportunities arise. The position is listed at 72 hours biweekly, with day and PM shifts open. The hourly wage range is $16.18–$22.30; final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

Requirements

Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
Ability to interact with patients, physicians, employees, and guests.
Must be able to attend the work site per schedule.
Successful completion of the pre-employment health screening process is required.
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a calm, productive manner.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
ServSafe certification or Minnesota Department of Health Food Manager’s certificate preferred, or willingness to successfully complete the ServSafe certification course.
Six months of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Deliver room service meals to patients.
Wash and sanitize dishes.
Serve co-workers and visitors in the cafeteria.
Brew Caribou coffee.
Deliver meals to catered meetings on site.
Learn about diet orders and ensure patients’ meals meet their dietary requirements.
Help maintain a food-safe environment through proper food storage and food-temperature monitoring.
Restock supplies.
Clean and sanitize the kitchen.
