About The Position

The Food Service Assistant performs tasks related to preparing and serving food, delivering and collecting food and supplies, operating food-preparation and sanitation equipment, and maintaining sanitation in designated department areas. The role supports food service for patients and other designated areas of the hospital or cafeteria, and performs related duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve food to patients as assigned, arranging it according to guidelines or tallies.
• Transport food and supplies to designated areas in the hospital or cafeteria and handle food in accordance with sanitary regulations.
• Deliver food trays, nourishment, supplemental feedings, and supplies in an orderly and timely manner; serve food and accurately fill requests.
• Collect used carts or trays and return them to the kitchen.
• Operate food-preparation and sanitation machines safely and efficiently, maintain equipment and work areas, and keep sufficient quantities of items available.
• Use utensils according to proper procedures and maintain work-area cleanliness.
• Mop floors and clean equipment, utensils, work areas, and service areas using required detergents and germicides.
• Refrigerate and label perishable food and store supplies in an orderly fashion.
• Sort silverware for washing and clean and polish stainless steel equipment; may perform environmental service duties.
• Perform related duties as required.
