About The Position

The Food Service Assistant supports higher-level personnel in preparing and serving food and maintaining a clean work area. Work is reviewed for adherence to sanitary standards and completion of assignments. The role assists with food tray preparation, delivery, and removal; helps ensure tray accuracy, special-diet adherence, and customer service; and cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas, including the dish room. The position is onsite with Pardee UNC Health Care’s Dietary Services organization and is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week day job.

Requirements

• No licensure or certification required.
• No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with removing dirty food trays from nursing units.
• Assist with early and late food tray deliveries in a timely manner.
• Assist with tray preparation and/or delivery, ensuring tray accuracy, adherence to special diets, and customer service.
• Assist with tray preparation during meal service hours.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas, including the dish room; wash dishes by hand or machine.
• Deliver food trays or nourishments to patient rooms or nursing units.
• Maintain compliance with JCAHO, State Health Department, and OSHA requirements for ongoing job training and health standards.
• Transfer food in the kitchen and on patient trays in a timely manner and according to proper protocol, including wearing a hair restraint and gloves and properly covering food to prevent contamination.
