Food Safety Laboratory Technician Summer Internship
About The Position
National Beef is seeking college students for a paid summer 2027 internship introducing them to Food Safety and Technical Services Management. Interns will gain hands-on experience with laboratory processes at an in-person production facility and learn how the laboratory integrates with the Operations Team. The program lasts 10–12 weeks, with placements at facilities in Liberal and Dodge City, Kansas. A housing allowance is included where required. The intern will work with Technical Services and Operations, take part in projects addressing business needs, and have opportunities to network with facility senior leadership. The intern will prepare weekly reports for the Corporate Director of Technical Services and the facility Laboratory Manager, summarizing insights and experiences. At the end of the summer, the intern will present their learning to the Senior Technical Services Team and key department heads.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in an accredited college degree program and have completed at least two years of study, with a focus in Animal Science, Agricultural Business, Microbiology, Chemistry, or another related field.
- Be classified as a junior for the 2024–2025 academic year.
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA in core curriculum classes.
- Demonstrate leadership abilities and on-campus involvement.
- Have strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Be able to work independently and self-direct project work.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office products.
- Be available to work 40 or more hours per week, including some weekends, on-site for the duration of the internship.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with the Technical Services and Operations Teams.
- Prepare detailed weekly reports for the Corporate Director of Technical Services and the facility Laboratory Manager, summarizing key insights and experiences from the previous week.
- Present learning from the internship to the Senior Technical Services Team and key department heads at the end of the summer.
