About The Position

The Newport Aquarium Food & Beverage Team Lead is a full-time position responsible for overseeing Sharky’s Café guest-facing processes and leading a team of 1 to 4 members. This role involves implementing Herschend Enterprises' Core Values and Newport Aquarium Guest Experience Standards, Policies, Procedures, and Safety Protocols to ensure a safe and efficient food and beverage operation. The Team Lead must maintain a positive attitude and appearance, assist in the development and monitoring of a motivated and productive team, and aid in the evaluation and training of all Food and Beverage team members. This position also requires handling guest and employee feedback, maintaining knowledge of aquarium activities and events, and ensuring PCI compliance. Daily responsibilities include participating in food preparation, guest transactions, and cleaning, as well as maintaining inventory and managing team member break schedules.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to think clearly, react quickly, and calmly to changes and/or stressful situations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and/or weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to remain on feet for long periods, climb stairs, bend and stoop.
  • Physical strength, including the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is a plus.
  • Prior point of sale experience is a plus.
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience desired.
  • Must have strong public speaking skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Previous guest service, food industry or retail experience preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification or Food Service Manager Certification desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, adhere to, and implement all Herschend Enterprises' Core Values and Newport Aquarium Guest Experience Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Protocols.
  • Oversee Sharky’s Café guest-facing processes and lead 1 to 4 team members.
  • Help Food and Beverage Management Team develop and monitor a highly motivated, positive, and productive team.
  • Assist in evaluations and training of all Food and Beverage team members.
  • Implement new policies and procedures when needed.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping involving team members, including Newport Aquarium awards and recognitions.
  • Handle comments, concerns and suggestions from fellow employees and guests regarding the guest experience.
  • Maintain knowledge of activities, aquatic life, and Newport Aquarium special events/promotions.
  • Keep safety as a number one priority at all times.
  • Work with other team members/departments to ensure effective communication.
  • Perform opening and closing duties as needed.
  • Cross train in other food and beverage areas.
  • Maintain Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance.
  • Participate in the basic functions of the foods department including, guest transactions, preparing food, and cleaning the lobby/café.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure items are in stock.
  • Maintain proper break schedule for team members as prescribed in host handbook.
  • Perform other related duties or tasks as assigned by the Merchandise Management Team.
