About The Position

The Barrington Hotel is seeking a Food & Beverage Manager for TEMPO Restaurant & Lounge, located in downtown Halifax. This role is accountable for the day-to-day operations of the restaurant and lounge, focusing on operational leadership, guest service, team management, event execution, and financial management. The ideal candidate will contribute to delivering exceptional guest experiences and hospitality.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a supervisory/managerial role within a hospitality establishment.
  • Strong wine, beer, and classic cocktail knowledge.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • The ability to anticipate and fulfill guests' needs before they even ask, ensuring a flawless dining experience.
  • Superior skills in addressing and resolving guest complaints or concerns with tact, ensuring a positive outcome without compromising the guest experience.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A post-secondary diploma/degree in Business or Hospitality is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on leadership during peak service periods, including expediting, assisting servers, and ensuring excellent guest experiences.
  • Oversee daily shift operations, verifying that staff consistently complete opening, closing, and operational checklists.
  • Manage inventory pars for grab-and-go, restaurant & lounge, ensuring products are fully stocked and properly merchandised.
  • Meet and communicate effectively with the sales department, kitchen, and front office.
  • Assist in the development of F&B menus and service offerings, working in coordination with the Chef Du Cuisine, Assistant General Manager, and General Manager.
  • Liaise with F&B Freehand Hospitality leadership in support of TEMPO’S offering.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the marketing department.
  • Coordinate Banquet service and ensure proper staffing is in place for a seamless execution.
  • Maintain Liquor inventory control and ongoing reporting to hotel accounting.
  • Complete other duties as required and assigned such as payroll, performance reviews, health and safety training, and food safety courses.
  • Provide mentorship to the front of house team, including monitoring employee performance, providing regular feedback, conducting performance evaluations, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop weekly staff schedules that balance business needs with team availability, and accurately process payroll using Dayforce.
  • Actively coordinate and assist with the execution of banquets and in-restaurant special events.
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with the Sales department and the F&B team regarding upcoming events, banquets, and operational updates.
  • Develop and maintain clear, consistent communication with the General Manager and Assistant General Manager.
  • Review daily operations reports, track revenue against targets, and promptly manage departmental email communications.
  • Conduct accurate monthly beverage inventory and manage alcohol ordering/purchasing.
  • Report beverage and alcohol inventory to hotel accounting in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Review, organize, and input departmental vendor invoices into Sage – hotel PO/Accounting process.
