Our Head Start program is seeking a dedicated, organized, and mission-driven Food & Nutrition Supervisor to lead our food and nutrition staff in the kitchen and ensure that young children receive healthy, nutritious meals that support their growth, development, and school readiness. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who believes that proper nutrition is critical to a child’s success and well-being. This position will oversee all kitchen operations for our Paterson Head Start Site, which includes meal production, inventory management, staff supervision, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will ensure that nutritious, tasty meals are prepared on time and efficiently delivered to multiple Head Start locations while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with three (3) years of relevant experience. If credentials are obtained outside the United States, they must be translated into English by a professional translator.
  • English fluency – Read, write, and speak.
  • ServSafe food handler certification or the ability to pass within three (3) months of hire.
  • Computer literacy required, including Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Must be able to physically meet the demands of the position, including lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Multi-linguistic ability a plus: particularly Spanish, Arabic, or Bengali.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees who plan, prepare, and serve meals to students in a pre-k setting.
  • Performs ongoing review and participates in food service operations, including but not limited to completing orders, ensuring portion control, maintaining production records, ensuring sanitation standards, recipe compliance, and related procedures.
  • Completes and obtains approval for all food and paper orders; ensures accurate inventory of food products and related items.
  • Assists in reviewing government requirements and providing an overview/training on any changes to gain knowledge about any grantee requirements.
  • Completes regular sanitation audits of all agency kitchens and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Develops and provides training and professional development for Food and Nutrition team members.
  • Assists in and completes catering activities across agency facilities.
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
