Fluid Systems Production Engineer II

BLUE ORIGIN•West Melbourne, FL

About The Position

Blue Origin is hiring a Fluid Systems Production Engineer II to support the development and operations of New Glenn, a reusable heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle. The role is the primary technical point of contact between design engineering and the manufacturing value stream, supporting production of flight-proven valve components. The engineer will build expertise in component design history, critical functions, and performance parameters, and work with procurement, testing, and operations teams to address design and manufacturing challenges. The position focuses on high-pressure, cryogenic, and highly stressed hardware, ensuring manufactured products meet design intent and supporting safe, repeatable spaceflight. The role provides hands-on production support, disposition of non-conforming hardware, design-for-manufacturability reviews, and sustaining engineering improvements. It also uses 3D CAD and FEA to evaluate designs and proposed changes, produces drawing updates according to ASME Y14.5 GD&T practices, and documents analyses supporting design changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or design engineering environment supporting production of complex mechanical or fluid systems.
  • Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, regulators, and fittings, and core concepts in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
  • Practical knowledge of common manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and quality control for machined components.
  • Experience interpreting GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and reviewing engineering drawings.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build trust and work effectively across teams.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted to the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience transitioning products from design and development into a high-rate production environment.
  • Expertise with cryogenic fluid systems, such as hydrogen, oxygen, or methane, and related materials.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software; Creo is preferred, and experience with major platforms such as SolidWorks or NX is valuable.
  • Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS.
  • Experience with component- or system-level testing, troubleshooting, and data acquisition.
  • Project management skills, including supplier management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for production and provide hands-on floor support to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Disposition non-conforming hardware by interpreting engineering models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Support producibility and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize processes and designs while navigating competing interests.
  • Investigate opportunities to improve legacy designs for manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
  • Develop and implement design improvements and update assembly and test procedures based on root cause analysis and production feedback.
  • Lead design-for-manufacturability reviews for internally built and supplier hardware.
  • Use 3D CAD and FEA tools to analyze existing designs and proposed modifications.
  • Complete design updates using drafting best practices in accordance with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
  • Create clear, well-documented analysis reports to substantiate design changes.
