About The Position

At Blue Origin, this role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a reusable, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed to carry people and payloads to orbit and beyond. The engineer leads the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of upper-stage cryogenic helium fluid systems. The work spans the design and production cycle, including conceptual design, requirements definition, detailed design, integration, testing, and mission support. The role applies creative problem-solving and manufacturing approaches to complex, high-pressure, cryogenic, and highly stressed hardware, with a focus on safe human spaceflight.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering.
  • At least 2 years of professional engineering experience with complex fluid systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with spacecraft or launch vehicle fluid system component design, testing, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated practical understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
  • Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, pressure vessels, flex elements, and fittings.
  • U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Required to pass Blue’s Standard Background Check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cryogenic helium, hydrogen, and oxygen systems.
  • Working knowledge of cryogenic material properties and testing.
  • Experience with fracture mechanics, including NASGRO.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with the application and use of welding.
  • Experience with Creo CAD and ANSYS FEA programs; these are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Disposition non-conforming hardware throughout all phases of flight production.
  • Develop and implement design improvements to increase production rate.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and technicians to develop work instructions and disposition hardware nonconformances.
  • Design, route, and troubleshoot complex fluid subsystems, including pressurization, pneumatics, propellant utilization, and cryogenic systems.
  • Work with fluid components such as solenoid valves, pneumatic valves, bellows, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
  • Use 3D CAD and FEA programs to develop designs and analyses.
  • Deliver completed designs using ASME Y14.5 GD&T drafting practices, with clear and well-documented analysis reports.
  • Lead design, development, manufacturing, and testing of upper-stage cryogenic helium fluid systems across conceptual design, requirements definition, detailed design, integration, test, and mission support.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
