About The Position

Blue Origin is hiring a Fluid System Design Engineer II to support the development and operations of New Glenn, a reusable heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle. The role leads the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of cryogenic fluid systems as production and launch cadence increase. It spans the design and production cycle, including conceptual design, requirements definition, detailed design, integration, testing, and mission support. The engineer will apply creative thinking and manufacturing solutions to complex problems involving high-pressure, cryogenic, and highly stressed hardware.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in engineering.
  • At least 2 years of professional engineering experience with complex fluid systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with spacecraft or launch-vehicle fluid-system component design, testing, or manufacturing.
  • Practical understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
  • Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, pressure vessels, flex elements, and fittings.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control for tubes/piping and machined components.
  • Working knowledge of materials and treatments.
  • Experience troubleshooting fluids hardware.
  • Project management skills, including supplier management, scheduling, and budget tracking.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

  • Experience with ANSYS FEA (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Disposition non-conforming hardware throughout all phases of flight production.
  • Develop and implement design improvements to increase production rate.
  • Drive design for manufacturability and update flight-hardware assembly and test procedures based on root cause analysis, manufacturing, testing, flight, and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Design, route, and troubleshoot complex fluid subsystems, including pressurization, pneumatics, propellant utilization, and cryogenic systems.
  • Work with fluid components such as solenoid valves, pneumatic valves, bellows, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
  • Use 3D CAD and Finite Element Analysis programs.
  • Deliver completed designs using ASME Y14.5 GD&T practices and provide clear, well-documented analysis reports.
