Fluid Systems Production Engineer III

Blue Origin•Space Coast, FL

About The Position

Blue Origin is seeking a Fluid Systems Production Engineer III to support the development and operations of New Glenn, its reusable heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle. The position serves as the primary technical point of contact between design engineering and the manufacturing value stream, supporting production of flight-proven valve components. The engineer develops expertise in component design history, critical functions, and performance parameters and works closely with procurement, testing, operations, and manufacturing teams to resolve design and build challenges. The role provides hands-on production-floor support for complex, high-pressure, cryogenic, and highly stressed hardware. It focuses on ensuring manufactured products meet their original design intent while improving manufacturability, cost, reliability, and production processes. The engineer leads design-for-manufacturability reviews and supports safe, repeatable spaceflight through technical problem-solving, quality, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or design engineering environment supporting production of complex mechanical or fluid systems.
  • Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, regulators, and fittings, and core thermodynamics and fluid mechanics concepts.
  • Practical knowledge of common manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and quality control for machined components.
  • Experience interpreting GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and reviewing engineering drawings.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build trust and work effectively across teams.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Commitment to Blue Origin’s mission and vision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience transitioning products from design and development into a high-rate production environment.
  • Expertise with cryogenic fluid systems, such as hydrogen, oxygen, or methane, and related materials.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software; Creo is preferred, and experience with platforms such as SolidWorks or NX is valuable.
  • Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS.
  • Experience with component- or system-level testing, troubleshooting, and data acquisition.
  • Project management skills, including supplier management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on production-floor support and troubleshoot manufacturing challenges as the first point of contact for production.
  • Disposition non-conforming hardware by interpreting engineering models, drawings, and specifications and making clear, effective assessments.
  • Serve as a producibility resource and collaborate across teams to optimize processes and designs and resolve competing interests.
  • Investigate opportunities to improve legacy designs for manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
  • Develop and implement design improvements and update assembly and test procedures using root cause analysis and production feedback.
  • Lead design-for-manufacturability reviews for internally built and supplier hardware.
  • Use 3D CAD and FEA tools to analyze existing designs and proposed modifications.
  • Complete design updates using drafting best practices and ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
  • Prepare clear, well-documented analysis reports supporting design changes.
  • Work with procurement, testing, and operations teams to identify and solve design and manufacturing challenges.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match of up to 5%.
  • Education Support Program.
  • Stock options for regular employees working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Paid time off of up to four weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours.
  • Up to 14 company-paid holidays.
  • Depending on role type and job level, possible benefits and bonuses tied to individual contributions, company results, or other factors; amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed.
