About The Position

Under immediate supervision, the Fleet Services Assistant services City vehicles. The position inspects, cleans, and refuels vehicles and performs shop or field repairs, including removing and mounting automotive, truck, and heavy-equipment tires. The role may also perform Texas State Vehicle Inspections and related duties as required. Some positions may require a Texas Class C or Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License, or an equivalent license from another state. Positions requiring a CDL or considered safety-sensitive are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations. Candidates may be required to work various shifts and weekends.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or higher.
Six months of general work experience.
Some positions may require a Texas Class C or Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License, or an equivalent license from another state.
Positions requiring a CDL or involving safety-sensitive work are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.

Responsibilities

Inspect vehicles for defects, worn or broken parts, and safety issues, and record defects, mileage, and work performed on work orders.
Check and top off fluid levels and tire air pressure.
Refuel vehicles and monitor tank pressures and flow rates to ensure proper refueling.
Steam-clean engines, radiators, and condensers.
Repair and change tires, oil filters, and air filters, and provide related vehicle maintenance.
Maintain accurate records of fuel dispensed and maintenance performed.
Keep the shop, work area, and tools clean.
Complete servicing tasks within established time frames and observe safe work practices.
Perform Texas State Vehicle Inspections.
Perform coworkers’ duties as necessary to maintain continuity of operations during absences.
Interact with supervisors, contract employees, and coworkers, and work as part of a team.
