About The Position

The City of Dallas is seeking a Fleet Parts Specialist to join their Equipment & Fleet Management team. This role is responsible for ordering, receiving, stocking, and managing a variety of automotive and diesel parts, supplies, materials, equipment, and merchandise to ensure the effective operation and maintenance of the storeroom and warehouse or yard for the Fleet Management Department. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in automotive work which involved one (1) or more of the following: Counter Sales, Inventory Control, Purchasing/Issuing Automotive or Heavy-Duty Parts.
  • Knowledge of storekeeping and inventory systems, methods, and procedures or the use of computerized tracking system.
  • Knowledge of supply room methods and practices.
  • Ability to keep routine supply room records.
  • Ability to do heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to do simple math.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to use technically oriented parts catalogs and reference manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, gathers, and organizes materials and supplies for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of an automotive, fleet supply, store room, warehouse, or storage yard.
  • Provides support to mechanics by storing, shipping, receiving, marking, and pulling automotive parts from warehouse supplies.
  • Communicates with vendors, obtains quotes, and searches master agreements to provide emergency repair orders and maintain fleet vehicle functionality.
  • Delivers, transports, and picks up supplies and materials from various locations to expedite procurement and disbursement.
  • Pulls orders and issues materials and supplies to mechanics.
  • Operates various equipment to move or transport supplies and materials.
  • Stocks and stores supplies, materials, and equipment in designated areas for efficient retrieval.
  • Maintains inventory using a computerized tracking system to ensure proper stock levels and quantities.
  • Monitors and maintains P-card usage logs.
  • Cleans automotive shop and performs general maintenance duties.
  • Pulls parts and tire or wheel assemblies from stock, posts them to repair orders, and delivers them to mechanics.
  • Prepares parts for return to manufacturer.
  • Receives salvaged or repaired parts into stock.
  • Affixes identification labels to parts.
  • Performs physical inventory.
  • Assists with other shipping and receiving operations.
  • Delivers parts to other locations, ensuring transfers are documented and accounted for.
  • Updates the computer inventory system to reflect changes.
  • Files completed work orders from mechanics into a permanent file.
  • Performs any other work as needed or assigned.
