About The Position

The Fleet Operations Manager is the primary technical subject matter expert and operational leader connecting central hardware engineering, depot dispatch, and local maintenance execution. The role has two core mandates: fleet readiness and availability, ensuring trucks are prepared and staged for commercial routes; and fleet health and safety, maintaining commercial vehicle roadworthiness alongside the Autonomous Driving System (ADS) sensor, compute, and hardware stack. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Market Operations, the manager oversees third-party maintenance providers, dealership warranty and service turnaround, root-cause diagnostic protocols, and connected telematics. The role uses these capabilities to improve fleet cost per mile while maintaining system safety and vehicle uptime. It is onsite five days per week in Phoenix, Arizona, or Fort Worth, Texas.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in commercial fleet operations, logistics maintenance management, medium-duty or heavy-duty truck repair operations, or advanced field hardware deployment.
  • At least 3 years of direct experience managing external maintenance vendors, commercial truck dealerships, or third-party service-provider networks under structured SLAs and performance scorecards.
  • Practical knowledge of Class 4–8 commercial truck platforms, diesel powertrains, pneumatic and hydraulic brake systems, FMCSA/DOT regulatory compliance, and commercial upfits.
  • Experience extracting and analyzing vehicle data from Fleet Management Systems (FMS/CMMS), telematics gateways (J1939/OBD), diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), and reporting tools such as Excel, Tableau, or Looker.
  • Ability to lead structured root-cause investigations using methods such as DMAIC, 5-Why, or Fishbone, and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Supply Chain, or Operations, or equivalent practical field experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Samsara.
  • CDL Class A with air brake endorsement.
  • Direct experience with autonomous vehicles, advanced robotics, connected commercial fleets, or automated guided transport.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and calibration experience with perception sensor suites, including cameras, LiDAR, radar, IMU/GNSS systems, and compute modules.
  • Formal certification or practical experience in Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, Toyota Production System (TPS), or high-reliability depot operating frameworks.
  • Familiarity with OEM service networks, including Freightliner, Isuzu, International, or Peterbilt, and warranty claim processing portals.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize vehicle availability and utilization by coordinating preventive maintenance, campaigns, and retrofits around commercial route schedules.
  • Oversee commercial vehicle maintenance, upfitter equipment, and Autonomous Driving System hardware health while enforcing FMCSA, DOT, and safety regulations.
  • Manage third-party repair shops, dealerships, and mobile service providers; hold partners accountable to service-level agreements, lead root-cause investigations, and maximize warranty recovery.
  • Use telematics and diagnostic data to reduce cost-per-mile metrics, report operational KPIs, and coordinate with procurement on spare-part stocking.
