About The Position

The Fiscal Management Specialist 1 position with the Department of Human Services (DHS) offers a chance to support programs that make a meaningful impact for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This role provides an engaging mix of financial analysis and public service, ensuring that vital resources are used effectively. You will build strong budgeting skills while contributing to important statewide efforts and help drive the work of the Bureau of Budget forward.

Requirements

  • One year as a Financial Programs Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of experience in paraprofessional fiscal administration work, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing budget and rebudget requests that support program goals and funding needs.
  • Review personnel, operational, census, and expenditure data to identify trends and track progress.
  • Analyze fiscal activity to ensure compliance with approved budgets and financial guidelines.
  • Monitor revenue projections and compare collections to expected totals to identify variances.
  • Develop supporting materials and responses for budget inquiries and legislative requests.
  • Collaborate with staff and help resolve fiscal issues related to assigned programs.
