About The Position

This is an office/clerical position responsible for assisting in the fiscal control of Augusta County, and the Cities of Waynesboro and Staunton. The role performs governmental accounting tasks related to the preparation, maintenance, and processing of accounting records and financial transactions for administrative bills, public assistance programs, and various client services. Responsibilities include maintaining accounting records for receipts, expenses, and balancing of local, state, or federal funds. The position also assists in providing emergency shelter as mandated and required.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the application of established bookkeeping and accounting principles, and accounting transactions.
  • Working knowledge of office accounting methods and procedures.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer, associated accounting software including spreadsheets, a calculator, and other office machines.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and effectively process and maintain financial records and files and prepare reports from them.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and record information and to balance figures.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand or apply laws, regulations and policies to the maintenance of financial records.
  • Demonstrated ability to verify documents and forms for accuracy and completeness.
  • Demonstrated ability to type accurately at good speed.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion and initiative in completing assignments and in dealing with other employees and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma supplemented with bookkeeping coursework, and related fiscal support experience using business and agency software to include spreadsheets OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • All employees must have a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Driving record must meet agency requirements.
  • Employee must be willing to work in the community emergency shelter in the event of a natural disaster or emergency.
