About The Position

As a Firmware Engineer on the Manufacturing Test team, you will develop platforms that interact with products at low levels, including I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, and USB. Working within an interdisciplinary product development team, you will deliver streamlined solutions for test execution and automation. Your code will help ensure consistently high-quality products. You will build features for embedded Linux, NIX, and multiple RTOS platforms, debug data-acquisition challenges in analog and digital systems, and improve test automation, throughput, user interfaces, and data analytics. You will develop firmware and software for manufacturing verification, including low-level microcontroller firmware, robot interfaces, control algorithms for off-the-shelf data-acquisition tools, and device-side validation of system-level features. You will troubleshoot issues across electrical, firmware, and software boundaries and help translate debugging processes into automated tests and failure-analysis procedures for production staff. You will also participate in design-for-test and design-for-manufacturing reviews with electrical engineering and product firmware teams.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Five years of professional industry experience.
  • Strong C coding ability for embedded systems.
  • Experience integrating microcontrollers with analog and digital sensors.
  • Experience developing firmware in bare-metal, RTOS, and embedded Linux environments.

  • Some familiarity with common bus protocols such as USB, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS232, RS485, and Ethernet.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Eight years of professional industry experience.
  • Bring-up and debugging expertise for new designs, with comfort working on low- and high-speed interfaces.
  • Strong fundamentals in data acquisition and analysis, including FFT, Bode, and control loops.
  • Experience with one or more microcontroller cores such as ARM, AVR, MSP430, or PIC.
  • Experience with embedded Linux development and deployment.
  • Debugging skills with JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Bias for action and willingness to solve and fix problems.
  • Natural curiosity about the technologies and tools used.

Responsibilities

  • Develop platforms to interact with products through low-level interfaces such as I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, and USB.
  • Deliver solutions for test execution and automation within an interdisciplinary product development team.
  • Build features for embedded Linux, NIX, and RTOS platforms.
  • Debug and solve analog and digital data-acquisition challenges.
  • Improve test automation methods, throughput, user interfaces, and data analytics.
  • Anticipate failure modes and develop code for host/client verification of form, fit, and function.
  • Develop low-level firmware and software for microcontroller platforms interfacing with robots, or control algorithms for off-the-shelf data-acquisition tools.
  • Build device-side validation capabilities for system-level features using SSH and gRPC, and create or leverage debug tools.
  • Troubleshoot issues spanning electrical, firmware, and software boundaries, and transfer the process into automated tests and failure-analysis procedures for production staff.
  • Participate in DFT/DFM reviews with electrical engineering and product firmware teams.
