Firmware Engineer, Manufacturing Test

Anduril•Costa Mesa, CA

About The Position

As a Firmware Engineer on the Manufacturing Test team, you will develop platforms that interact with products at low levels, including I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, and USB. Working within an interdisciplinary product development team, you will deliver streamlined test execution and automation solutions that help ensure consistently high-quality products. You will build features for embedded Linux, NIX, and multiple RTOS platforms; debug complex analog and digital data-acquisition challenges; and improve automation methods, throughput, user interfaces, and data analytics.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • At least 5 years of professional industry experience.
  • Strong C coding ability for embedded systems.
  • Experience integrating microcontrollers with analog and digital sensors.
  • Experience developing firmware in bare-metal and RTOS environments, as well as embedded Linux.
  • Solid understanding and application of coding best practices, board bring-up, and debugging.
  • Some familiarity with common bus protocols such as USB, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS232, RS485, and Ethernet.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • 8 years of professional industry experience.
  • Bring-up and debugging expertise for new designs, with comfort working with low- and high-speed interfaces.
  • Strong fundamentals in data acquisition and analysis, including FFT, Bode, and control loops.
  • Experience with one or more microcontroller cores, such as ARM, AVR, MSP430, or PIC.
  • Experience with embedded Linux development and deployment processes.
  • Debugging skills using JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • A bias for action and inclination to solve and fix problems.
  • Natural curiosity about the technologies and tools used.

Responsibilities

  • Develop platforms and features for interacting with products at low levels and supporting test execution and automation.
  • Build firmware and software that anticipates failure modes and verifies product form, fit, and function on host and client systems.
  • Develop low-level firmware and software for microcontroller platforms interfacing with robots, or control algorithms for off-the-shelf data-acquisition tools.
  • Build device-side validation capabilities for system-level features using SSH, gRPC, and existing or newly created debug tools.
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues across electrical, firmware, and software boundaries, and document the process in automated tests and failure-analysis SOPs for production-line staff.
  • Participate in DFT/DFM reviews with electrical engineering and product firmware teams.
  • Continuously improve test automation, throughput, user interfaces, and data analytics.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of total compensation.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, described as comprehensive and competitive and available at little to no cost to employees.
